Divet came into our rescue program on August 24, 2017. Divet came into our rescue program from the Hughes County Sheriff's Office as a cruelty case along with 9 other horses. Sadly, 1 horse we lost shortly after the seizure due to the extreme nature of his neglect. We tried everything to save him, but he was too far gone and didn't have the energy to fight. Thankfully, help arrived in time for the remaining horses. Divet is a Beautiful, Black/White, Paint, Gelding. Divet is estimated to be 7 years of age. Divet is in need of some major dental work. He also has a very large oral fistula on the right side of his face. The fistula forms a complete opening between the oral cavity and the outside environment. This was likely caused by a penetrating wound created by a foreign body and is several weeks, perhaps even longer, old. When Divet eats, feed material is exteriorized out of the fistula. The fistula will require surgery to repair. That is a sensitive area and we are praying for a successful fix. His surgery will be scheduled soon. Divet's blood work was also elevated and he was infested with parasites. Divet stands for the farrier and loads in a trailer. He can be a bit aloof from time to time, but once caught, very easy to handle. Divet has a long road of recovery ahead of him. We will update as he receives the necessary surgery. Please consider making a donation towards Divet's Rehabilitation.
Update December 2018 Divet is doing great and now seeking his forever, loving home. Divet is super sweet and loves attention. Divet still has the open hole on the side of his face. He has seen several surgeons, all of which, have stated that the surgery is more cosmetic and not necessary, as they can not guarantee that it will close up. The hole does not affect his sinus', etc., If it was taken care of properly when the wound first occurred, it would have closed up. The length of time that he has had the wound, would now require to much to heal properly. His teeth are in good shape now, and he doesn't have any issues resulting from the hole. Divet is now ready for his own forever, loving home where he can be started under saddle and given a job. Divet has an eager to please personality and will make someone an excellent horse with the right amount of time and training. Divet is halter broke and broke to lead, he stands for the farrier and loads in a trailer. Divet has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming, teeth floating and hoof maintenance.
