Evita came into our rescue program on June 16, 2011. Evita is a Tornado Survivor from the May 24th, 2011, EF5 Tornado that swept through much of Canadian County. Evita was found in a 30 foot ravine covered with debris and Trees in Piedmont, Oklahoma on the following day. Evita has a severly fractured Pelvis, in multiple places. Evita is a Beautiful, Gray/White, Paint, Filly. She is estimated to be 1 1/2 years of age. This sweet girl has a long road of recovery ahead of her. She is to remain on stall rest for the next 6 to 9 months. Hopefully, this will allow her fractures to mend together and start calcifying. Due to the extensive amount of fractures, she is not a surgery candidate. However, we do feel with the right amount of stall rest and time, she should be able to make a full recovery and become a pasture sound companion. We felt compelled to save Evita, in Elvis' Memory. Evita is the first horse helped by The Elvis Fund. We will update her status as she continues to show progress. Please consider making a donation towards Evita's rehabilitation.
Update February 2012 Evita is really starting to blossom. Her pelvis is getting stronger each day. She is still on stall rest, but she will soon be able to upgrade to a larger area. She really enjoys life and will buck and play in her pen. I know she feels good and is currently pain free, which brings us a great deal of comfort. She is gaining weight and is such a beautiful girl. She is super sweet and loves attention. She will never be a riding horse, but should be pasture sound and will make a wonderful companion horse/pet. We will update as she continues to progress.
Evita has been adopted to a wonderful family in Jones, Oklahoma. Evita, along with Wildfire, have found a wonderful home and family where they will be able to live out their lives comfortably in a beautiful pasture. We are thrilled that these two have found such a wonderful family to call their own where they will receive all the love and attention they deserve. It is so nice to know that these horses will be pampered the remainder of their life, despite their physical disabilities.
Please call or email to schedule an appointment to visit the horses currently available in our rescue program. We are generally available by appointment Monday - Thursday after 5:30 and anytime Friday - Sunday. We do maintain full time jobs, so we are not always available on weekdays.
