Gunner came into our rescue program on August 24, 2017. Gunner came into our rescue program as an owner surrender from MARS of Illinois. We was contacted by a representative from MARS of Illinois Equine Division regarding Gunner. Gunner is in need of a possible surgery and unfortunately, they didn't have the means, veterinary resources, funding, etc., to provide that surgery to Gunner and hated to euthanize him without knowing for sure what was indeed wrong with Gunner. Gunner is a Beautiful, Leopard, Appaloosa, Gelding. Gunner is estimated to be 7 years of age. Gunner has an enlarged area between his eyes on his forehead. He was diagnosed with a frontal sinus cyst that will require surgery. We wanted to help Gunner and agreed to take him on. We hope to pursue a diagnosis soon and start Gunner on the road to recovery. He is a super sweet boy and loves attention. Gunner stands for the farrier and loads in a trailer. We ask that you please consider making a donation towards Gunner's medical care. We will update soon with additional information and what the diagnosis is and what is required. Please consider making a donation towards Gunner's Veterinary Care.
Update November 2017 Gunner is now seeking his forever, loving home to call his own. We are happy to report that Gunner's original diagnosis of a frontal sinus cyst was incorrect. It appears that Gunner at one time fractured his skull. The fracture is between his eyes on his forehead. It has healed and resulted in leaving a large knot on his forehead. Nothing can be done to repair that, the bone has healed itself the best way it knows how. Gunner is a sweet boy and loves attention. He is very smart and if he thinks he can get out of work, he will certainly try. He just needs a consistent hand and one that will not let him get his way. Once he realizes he won't win, he settles right in and does as asked. Gunner is broke to ride. I would still consider him a bit green, but with time, consistency and routine rides in a round pen, he will be doing great and make someone an excellent horse. Gunner stands for the farrier and loads in a trailer. Gunner has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming, teeth floating and hoof maintenance. If you are interested in adopting this sweet boy and giving him the forever, loving home that he deserves, please submit an adoption application or call/email to schedule an appointment to come visit Gunner.
