Mom came into our rescue program on July 14, 2020. Mom came into our rescue program from the City of Edmond Animal Welfare along with 23 other horses as a cruelty case. This case has been a long drawn out ordeal and we are thankful that we can now prepare these horses for adoption. Many of these horses had a lot of medical issues that we have been treating and taking care of. Reportedly, most of the horses in this case are all Western Pleasure bred. We DO NOT have registration papers on any of these horses. Mom is a Beautiful, Bay, Quarter Horse, Mare. Mom is estimated to be 15 years of age. Mom is very thin, with a body condition score of a 2. Mom is accompanied by an approximately 12 week old Colt. Blood work showed her total protein was elevated likely due to infection or dehydration. Lactate was elevated which can indicate poor vascular perfusion. Glucose was low likely due to poor nutrition and high calorie demand (lactation). Fecal egg count showed strongyles were at 175 eggs per gram (moderate shedder). Mom is doing well and settling in nicely. Mom and baby are on an appropriate diet to properly accommodate them both. We will update as they improve. Please consider making a donation towards Mom's Rehabilitation.
