Ruby came into our rescue program on October 25, 2017. Ruby came into our rescue program as an Owner Surrender from Lexington, Oklahoma. I really felt that "RUDY" was a case we would only see once in our lifetime. Sadly, here we are, repeating everything we went through almost 3 years ago, now with this sweet little girl, we have affectionately named RUBY! We were contacted after Ruby was attacked by dogs by a neighbor of where the pony lived in Lexington. The neighbor had taken Ruby into her care after she had found her attacked and roaming freely. Unfortunately, it took 4 days for Ruby to come into our care while the neighbor worked with the County Sheriff and the Owner to get Ruby relinquished to rescue to be properly treated. We immediately traveled to Lexington to pick up Ruby once she was finally cleared to leave and our wonderful Veterinarian met us here at Blaze's to immediately start treatment. Ruby came to us with extensive injuries to her ears, mouth and legs. We are thankful for the lessons of treatment we learned with Rudy and knew exactly what we needed to do for this little girl. One of the experiences much different in Ruby's case, was the temperature difference. In the 4 days Ruby waited for Veterinary care, a lot of maggots covered the wounds. This was a very complicated part of the wound cleaning for me. Ruby, just like Rudy, has a remarkable will to be here. She is such a sweet pony and doesn't mind us taking care of her needs. She does however, hate her head bandage and every day is a new challenge for her to see how quickly she can mess it up and get off of her head. Bandages are certainly not one of her favorite things. lol I must admit, she is very crafty at removing them. Ruby is a Sorrel/White, Paint Pony, Mare. Ruby is estimated to be 2 years of age. We will update as she continues to improve. Please consider making a donation towards Ruby's Rehabilitation

Update October 31 Ruby continues to thrive and her wounds are healing beautifully each day. She has an amazing personality and doesn't seem bothered by anything, including our personal dogs. I think she knows our dogs mean her no harm. She is very smart. She continues to battle the bandages and the race is on immediately following a wound cleaning and bandage change. She certainly keeps us on our toes around here. lol Another huge difference between her and Rudy. Rudy never messed up his bandages. He was such a good patient. lol Considering how quickly Ruby is healing, perhaps she knows better than we do. ;-) We will update as she continues to improve. Update November 8 Ruby continues to thrive and her wounds are healing beautifully each day. I am completely amazed at how quickly she is healing. I would like to take credit for her healing but I honestly think that this little girl has healing properties all of her own. It took considerably longer for Rudy to heal. In some ways, her wounds were much worse, but in other ways, they wasn't. Ruby will not be able to hear. She had so much damage to her outer ear canal's that we wasn't able to save them. Her inner ear canals were left undamaged. She has healthy granulation tissue over her ear canals. She will not be able to hear but may be able to hear muffled sounds. This is one difference between her and Rudy. Rudy's hearing is in tack. So far, it doesn't seem to bother her that she can't hear and she is quick to notice her surroundings. We will update as she continues to improve. Please consider making a donation towards Ruby's Rehabilitation

Update January Ruby is completely healed and looks absolutely stunning. I may be biased but she is the most beautiful little pony I have ever seen. Ruby is full of life and personality. She has overcome so much in record time. She amazes me! We haven't decided Ruby's future yet. Not sure if we will search to find her the perfect forever, loving home or if she should remain here with us. Rudy is a handful all of his own, so keeping Ruby is a big decision that will not be made lightly. We will update as we come to a decision. In the meantime, she is happy and healthy and hanging out in the barn still. She loves her stall and doesn't seem to be eager to leave it anytime soon. Considering how cold it has been, I am happy to oblige and let her have her own room. More updates to come soon! Thank you everyone for your amazing support. We can't continue our rescue efforts without each and everyone of you!
