Toppsey came into our rescue program on August 23, 2011. Toppsey came from the Piedmont Police Department. Toppsey along with 10 other Belgian's and 1 mule were surrendered to the Piedmont Police Department, as the former owner was no longer able to provide the proper care they needed. Piedmont Police Department requested us to take the horses. These pictures were not taken the day the horses were removed. Once Blaze's was able to pick up the horses, they had received several days of a good nutritional diet, therefore, changing their body condition. Toppsey is a Beautiful, Chestnut, Belgian Draft, Mare. Toppsey is estimated to be 18 years old. Toppsey is a body score of a 2. She is in need of dental work and hoof care. Toppsey is lame in her hind quarters and we fear it may be EPM. We are currently waiting for the blood results to return. We will update as she progresses. Please consider making a donation towards Toppsey's rehabilitation.
Update 9/1/2011 Sadly, Toppsey has been confirmed to have EPM. We are starting the treatment, but she will require the medication for at least 90 days. We pray that she will recover and has not suffered neurologically. Please consider making a donation to assist in Toppsey's EPM Treatment.
Update May 2012 Toppsey is now seeking her forever, loving home. Toppsey is doing great and looks wonderful. She shows no signs of EPM and is healthy and happy. Toppsey has a few areas on her muzzle that is skin cancer. We had some of it removed, however, she may need to have other areas removed in the future. Toppsey is super sweet, stands for the farrier, loads in a trailer. Toppsey is broke to drive and ride. Obviously, she will require some tune up time with both, as it has been well over a year since she was driven or ridden. We know that Toppsey used to be a carriage horse downtown. She is extremely calm. We also know that Toppsey coliced several years ago and did have colic surgery. She has never offered to colic during her rehabilitation process and has continued to do great. Toppsey stands at 16.3 hands tall. Toppsey has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming, teeth floating and hoof maintenance. If you are interested in giving this sweet girl the forever, loving home that she deserves, please submit an adoption application or call/email to schedule an appointment to come see Toppsey.
Toppsey has been adopted by a wonderful family in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Toppsey is going to be extremely well loved and spoiled rotten in her forever, loving home. We are thrilled that this sweet girl has such a great family where she will be provided all the love and care that she truly deserves.
