Libby came into our rescue program on February 28, 2008. Libby is part of an animal cruelty investigation by the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office. Libby was taken to the Jones Livestock Auction, by her former owner, 15 minutes before the sale ended. One of the Deputies from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office contacted me at 11:00 pm Thursday evening and requested that we come to the sale and pick up this horse. Libby was unloaded off the trailer with blood gushing from her mouth and upper lip at the sale barn. Libby had an open wound on her front leg, a puncture wound on her hind leg, welp marks all over her hind quarters, an extremely large bruise under her rib cage, and the worst part of it all, a portion of her nose has been sheared off and she has a large puncture wound on her gums above her upper teeth. This poor girl was very dehydrated and clearly traumatized. The former owners stated all these injuries occurred in the trailer. However, their was no signs of trauma in the trailer and according to our veterinarian most of the injuries were at least 48 hours old. I am pleased to say that the former owners are being prosecuted for Animal Cruelty. We don't know what happened to this poor girl, but it is obvious that she was very abused. Libby is a sweet 2 year old, Paint, Filly that did not deserve such horrible treatment. Libby is still being rehabilitated from her extensive injuries. Once she has recovered mind and body, she will be available for adoption. We will update as Libby progresses. |
