Nala came into our rescue program on January 3, 2010. Nala came from the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare Division. Nala is extremely emaciated with an extremely bad infection in her mouth. She had several rotten teeth that needed to be pulled, which resulted in the infection and the huge abscess on the side of her face. This poor girl was in obvious pain. She is currently being treated and on antibiotics. We hope that we are getting ahead of the infection. Nala is a sweet girl. She is estimated to be 15 years old. She is a Beautiful, Bay, Quarter Horse, Mare. We will update as she progresses. Please consider making a donation towards Nala's Rehabilitation.
Update 6/20/2010 Nala has come through recovery by leaps and bounds. She is doing great and we are continueing to monitor her. When Nala arrived, she had a severe sinus infection which resulted from rotten abscessed teeth that were never removed or treated. Nala's mouth and sinus' were so infected and the smell was horrible. Nala had to under go several surgeries. All she could eat was wet senior feed and wasn't allowed to have any type of forage, as it would get packed in her mouth, where the teeth were pulled. She had the 2 rotten teeth pulled and we had to drill into her sinus' in hopes that would relieve some pressure. It was pretty clear that her sinus' were walled off from all the infection. We then decided that it was important to go back in and chip away all the excess bone that had formed on the side of her face in hopes that getting the infected bone and tissue removed would allow her sinus' to open up. This appears to have given her some much needed relief, however, we are watching her closely to make sure that she doesn't appear to have any more sinus infections. She has gained a lot of weight and looks great compared to the emaciated condition she was in when she arrived. We will continue to monitor her recovery. Hopefully, she will be available for adoption soon, but we certainly don't want to adopt her out, if she will require more long term medical care. Nala is a sweet girl and deserves all the help that she can get. Please consider making a donation towards Nala's continued rehabilitation.
Update 9/18/2010 -- Nala is doing great and seeking her forever, loving home. Nala continues to gain weight and she is looking great. Nala had another surgery, where they chipped away all the excess bone that had developed due to the rotten teeth and cleaned out all the dead tissue, etc., She is doing wonderfully. Nala has an old injury to her left eye, where she has partial vision. She is super sweet and loves attention. Nala is broke to ride, but would encourage some tune up rides in a round pen, as we have no idea when she was ridden last. Nala stands for the farrier and loads in a trailer. Nala has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming, hoof maintenance, and extensive dental care. If you are interested in giving this sweet girl a forever, loving home, please submit an adoption application.
