ChumpChump

Chump came into our rescue program on November 30, 2012. Chump came from the Beartooth Humane Alliance in Red Lodge, Montana along with 7 other horses. Chump, along with 64 other horses were part of a large scale animal cruelty case that Beartooth Humane Alliance worked in February 2012. Twenty six of the horses scored 3 or less on the BCS. The 26 were removed from the property and Beartooth Humane Alliance have been providing the feed and fostering for these horses since February while the investigation was pending. When the court case settled in July, the owner had 30 days to find new homes for all of her 65 horses including the horses that were seized. The owner relinquished 20 of the total to Beartooth in August for rehab and re-homing. Beartooth contacted us in October and requested our assistance. Due to the harsh winters, dried ponds, and lack of water, Beartooth wanted to place the remaining 8 horses in a rescue that would be able to continue to provide them the care, training and adoptive homes they deserved. Beartooth received our information from Stacy Segal with A.S.P.C.A. When we were first contacted, we knew we wanted to help, but didn't know if we would be able to offer them the assistance they needed. I always say, if God leads me to it, he will lead me through it. We were blessed with several adoptions, which freed up the space to allow these guys to come to us. As Beartooth states, "In what has been a tumultuous year for twenty horses surrendered to BHA after being found starved at the Rehard property in Luther, MT last February, yet another new chapter has begun - into a fairytale. A unique collaboration established between the Beartooth Humane Alliance and several nationwide horse rescue facilities will provide an opportunity for everlasting greener pastures for our horses. As the name implies, horse rescue organizations hold true to their mission of providing rehabilitation, training and re-homing for horses confiscated from cruelty cases, destined for slaughter, abandoned, or surrendered by owners unable to continue caring for their horse. Horse rescue organizations face the same challenge as dog and cat rescues and shelters face - there are just too many animals in need. BHA is thrilled to have our horses accepted into these programs knowing they will receive exceptional care and training followed by placement into caring, permanent homes." We join several other wonderful organizations that have taken on these beautiful horses, such as, Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, UT, The Horse Protection League in Golden, CO, Zuma's Rescue Ranch in Littleton, Co, The Duchess Sanctuary in Oakland, OR, and Strawberry Mountain Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, in Roseburg, OR. Sometimes, it takes a Village, regardless everyone pulled together to help some amazing horses.

Chump is a Beautiful, Black/White, Paint, Gelding. Chump is estimated to be 11 years of age. Chump stands at 14.2 hands tall. Chump is absolutely stunning! He is very well muscled and very athletic. He is a little sensitive and insecure at first, but gives in quickly and responds well to all that is asked of him. He is good with ground work, water crossing, obstacles and trailer loading and has been worked with all the above on ground training. Chump is broke to ride! We would recommend some tune up time in a round pen or small enclosed area. You can tell it has been quite some time since he has been ridden, but once he starts to remember, he does good. He has a willing personality and wants to please. He enjoys treats and will do anything for one! These pictures just don't do this beautiful boy justice. He is certainly a must see! Chump will make someone an excellent horse with the right amount of time and training. Chump has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming and hoof maintenance. If you are interested in giving this beautiful boy the forever, loving home that he deserves, please submit an adoption application or call/email to schedule an appointment to come visit Chump.

Chump has been adopted to a wonderful family in Yukon, Oklahoma. Chump is going to be extremely well loved and spoiled rotten in his forever, loving home. We are certain that this is a match that was meant to be, as Chump had a long list of potential adopters. The 3rd time is a charm, certainly rings true, as this adopter sat back and patiently waited for his chance. Chump is going to be a companion and trail horse in his forever, loving home. We are thrilled that this sweet boy found the forever, loving family he deserves where he will receive the time and attention he needs.
